This week saw the completion of a project Had-Fab was involved with in partnership with civic Architects Ltd. to fabricate specially designed public artwork structures to be installed in the central open space of the new Airdrie Community Health Centre.

Initially designed by civic Architects Ltd, the structural analysis was undertaken by Elliott and Company Structural Engineers in Edinburgh, before Had-Fab were consulted on the fabrication and installation of the sculptures. Had-Fab were able to offer some of their expertise in the fabrication field to come to the most simple and efficient methods for fabrication and installation.

Had-Fab are pleased to announce that they have completed an extension to their current office facilities, and also started developing the new stock yard located a short distance away at The Old Aerodrome.

The 4-acre Aerodrome site now serves as a valuable storage and stock yard where fabricated structures can be stored before being delivered to site. Sitting just across the road from our existing facilities next to the A1 at Macmerry, this space should relieve the pressure of storage within the original workshop and stock yard and should accommodate a more efficient manufacturing process, and greater overall output.

The Had-Fab offices have also seen change with the completion of an extension to the original offices, and refurbishment throughout. The extension has increased the workspace greatly, allowing each department more space and an overall increase in storage as well as giving a modern feel to the office environment. The extension also brings the office up to date with double glazing and increased insulation throughout.

Another week and more award success for Had-Fab. This week they won two of the Structural Steel Design Awards.

The Structural Steel Design Awards, supported by the British Constructional Steelwork Association and Tata Steel, set out “to recognise the high standards of structural and architectural design attainable in the use of steel and its potential in terms of efficiency, cost effictiveness, aesthetics and innovation”. The standard of entries to the 2011 awards was very high and reflect the high standards being achieved both in design and fabrication. Had-Fab winning awards like these shows that the work they do is of the highest standard.

Had-Fab won their awards for their work as the ‘Steelwork Contractor’ and ‘Main Contractor’ on the Exposure project.

The judges referred to Exposure as ‘a remarkable structural steelwork structure’ and credited the whole team for overcoming the challenges that such a complex design gave.

Had-Fab's Structural Steel Design Awards

Had-Fab recently won a ‘GAGA’ award from the Galvanizers Association for the Exposure project which was completed in conjunction with Anthony Gormley.

The Galvanizers Association represents the hot dip galvanizing industry of the UK and the Galvanizers Association Galvanizing Awards (GAGAs) aim to give recognition to those who are pushing the boundaries of what is possible in terms of hot-dip galvanizing in this country. The awards span five categories, for areas spanning from architecture to sustainability.

Had-Fab won the ‘Galvanizing in Engineering’ category for Exposure. Galvanizing this 60-tonne, 26m high ‘crouching man’ figure was certainly no mean feat, providing the company with many logistical and physical challenges along the way, but none of which were outwith the capabilities of those working on the project.
